This course will go beyond the introduction of green building strategies. Building science principles will be integral to the presentation and the realities of design and construction will be discussed thoroughly.What you will learn:
The course will focus on real-world strategies to help companies take advantage of the growing momentum toward building green. The course will include national and local case studies, an examination of current green marketing research, and resources for green marketing implementation. This course will go beyond the basics to provide in-depth instruction on how to install a solar water heating system, and will cover specific topics such as: optimal orientation and roof slope, various system types, rough-in particulars, system performance, and financial incentives (federal and NC renewable energy tax credits). This half-day workshop will provide an overview of how to evaluate new green products and integrate green materials into your next construction project, while maximizing LEED points and providing the most value to your customers. This course will teach effective water saving strategies that can be incorporated into your new home construction, or integrated as upfit solutions for existing homes. Outdoor water collection strategies give your home an edge with today's drought-conscious environment. An overview of strategies will be provided that can help you earn points towards green certification with Green Building programs. Pending Legislation affecting water use in new home construction will also be presented.
A case study of completed projects will be presented. Whole building design approach will be emphasized. Green design theory and construction decisions meet reality. Experiential information from actual design projects and decision making from pricing to move-in will be shared with attendees. The design lab’s focus will be to have exercises working with development specifications and conventional home designs in order to develop solutions using green strategies in relation to site, and home design.
